The sound quality is really good and everything sits in the mix good. I like that I can hook up my turntable and sample. The Ren has spdif input and out if you want to go digital route for your sounds. The Renaissance is the deluxe Version meaning you get all the features compared to MPC Studio. Since the Renaissance is an audio interface, controller and semi DAW, you get left and right main output with 2 assignable outs. The transport buttons feel sturdier compared to previous MPCs. It has the look and feel of all the previous MPCs. I love the flip screen, pads and overall feel of the controller. Personally I was sort of sad but curious about the possibilities. The MPC Renaissance is not a stand-alone MPC and some were disappointed to hear it wasn’t. Akai also released the MPC Studio which is a smaller more portable version with a few missing features.

For those who don’t know, the MPC Renaissance is a hybrid MPC which means it’s a controller with software on your computer. The MPC Renaissance is built like a tank and slightly sturdier compared to my Akai MPC 2000XL. I took my time learning the layout of the Renaissance. Obviously, everything is done in the software, so how can something like that integrate into the Tascam Portastudio? Because for only $399, it seems like a steal, but I'm just curious if this can actually break into the electronic music market. This is the review of the Akai MPC Renaissance. What I think is great about this is the price - $399 for a 24-track board, wtf!īut here's the question I'm asking myself: is this good for Hip Hop production? I can totally see live instruments being recorded on this unit, but for electronic-based production? I don't know. I think it's great though because with controllers like Maschine and Renaissance (and many others), more beatmakers and producers are looking to get away from the PC and focus on the music with their ears. But with everything being done on computers nowadays, I'm really surprised that they're still doing these. The last time I used a Portastudio was in 1998 and it was a 4 track with a cassette.
